One of the techniques we hypnotists use is called Parts Therapy, and the king of Parts Therapy is Jamie Feldman, Ph.D., www.hypnotherapyinstitute.com .
Everyone has different parts to themselves. We have the son or daughter, some have the parent, the critic, the jokester, the emotional part, the addict. All kinds of parts. All parts think they are protecting the Self.
When people want to make a change, like exercising more, or smoking less, we sometimes contact the part that is causing the problem and give it a new job. If you are very self aware, you may know some of your parts. For example, I have a part that I call the PitBull. He Never, Never gives up. So, if I need to kick myself in the butt, I talk to the PitBull and get him to keep me going when the going is rocky.
Try it for yourself. Think of an improvement you’d like to make in your life. Imagine there is a part of you that is in charge of that habit or attitude. Thank it for the work it has done so far. Tell it you’d like to give it a new job. Make sure it is okay with the change.
