Dear Readers:
It’s been a rough year… for all of us. So I thought I’d add a little merriment to this holiday season.
Enclosed you will find a Set of codes going from A through EE and 1 through 8. For example A says “Place.” List a Place in A. Example: Los Angeles or the bathroom or Mars.
J says Activity: knitting, kayaking, skinny dipping
Fill in answers for all the codes. Then go back and use them to recite your very own unique version of “The Night Before Christmas.”
Hope you enjoy the laugh on me.
Ho! Ho! Ho!
Kathy
‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the ____A____
Not a creature was stirring, not even a _____B____;
The ___C_____ were hung by the _____D____ with care,
In hopes that ___E________ soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their ____F____,
While visions of ___G______ danced in their heads;
And mamma in her __H_______, and I in my _____I____,
Had just settled down for a long ____J______,
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the ______K_____ to see what was the matter.
Away to the ____L_____window I flew like a ___M_____,
Tore open the ____N____ and threw up the ____O____.
The ____P_____ on the breast of the new-fallen ___Q_____
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature ____R_____, and eight tiny ____S________,
With a little old ___T_____, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be _____E_____.
More rapid than ___V_____ his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
“Now, _____1___! now, __2_______! now, ____3_______ and ___4______!
On, ___5_____! on ____6_____! on, _____7___ and ____8_____!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!”
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of ___U______, and ____E_____ too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the _________
The prancing and pawing of each little _____S____.
As I drew in my hand, and was turning around,
Down the chimney _____E______ came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;
A bundle of ____V_____ he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.
His eyes — how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a ____W____!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as ____X_____ as the ____Y____
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the ___Z_____ it encircled his head like a _____AA______;
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of __BB_______.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his ___CC______,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the _____DD___________.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
“____EE__________________________.”
