ABCs of Hypnosis: Letting Go


“Oh, the feelings inside are frightful,

But life’s magic is so delightful,

So if you wanna really grow,

Let it go! Let it go! Let it go!”

This song, sung to the tune of “Let it Snow,” popped into my mind completely formed back in 1995. I was in therapy for workaholism at the time. Letting Go was my life’s theme at the time.

Letting Go of whatever emotional and mental garbage (even physical for that matter) is one of the best things you can do for yourself with hypnosis. There are many ways this process can happen.

To let go of anger, I have the person take a pleasant walk in a beautiful forest, find a rock (size of rock determines size of stuck anger), and obliterate it using whatever tool turns up at their disposal. I once had a divorcee pulverize a huge boulder down into bags of sand.

I also use Time Line therapy, which I refer to as Emotional Vacuum Cleaning. Another technique that works well for just about any problem is to burn the problem and anything causing it up in a bon fire.
