101 Ways to Be Really Happy: Step #55- Stand Up for What You Believe In

Many years ago, I stood up to Goliath and triumphed. Later, my mother would say, “I bet if you had to do it all over again, you wouldn’t.” (because it was an exhausting and soul-wrenching experience which she thought I would have rather avoided.)

I can’t promise you that you will win if you stand up for what you believe it in, but I’ll tell you the same thing I told my mother, “It may not have been easy, but at least I’m not ashamed to look in the mirror and I sleep very well at night.”

Standing up doesn’t have to mean filing a multi-million dollar lawsuit. It doesn’t mean you have to become a civil rights activist either. Maybe you give $10 to stamp out childhood illiteracy or volunteer your time at a soup kitchen. The more you stand up for what you know is right, the more you become authentically you.

Besides, it really feels good, too.
