I have always attributed this quote to former Cosmopolitan editor, Helen Gurly-Brown who died in 2012 at the age of 90. However, upon researching it for this post, I found:
- I can’t find one instance in which she made that exact quote.
- I was amazed at the number of people who wish to see the quote stricken from the English language.
As a hypnotist, I know you have to imagine it before you achieve it. That is how I have always interpreted this quote and how I will continue to do so.
I don’t believe that imagining yourself as the happiest person on the planet makes you a phony. I think it makes you very smart. Research has proven time and again that optimists achieve better results in their lives than pessimists or realists.
Optimist? Pessimist? Realist? The choice is yours.
