101 Ways to Be Really Happy: Step #81– Appreciate your Body

When I was in my 30s, I went to see a psychologist. I actually tricked myself into going. She did past life regressions and I told myself I was going to see what they were like. What I really ended up working on was the workaholism I had inherited from my father.

At one point my therapist said urgently, “Kathy, you are not a spirit dragging a body around! You need to find a way to get in touch with your physical self.”

So I chose massage. That was one of the best decisions I ever made and opened me up to all kinds of healing therapists, including dance.

One easy way to appreciate your physical self is to look in the mirror daily and find something you really love about your body and talk to it. EG: “I love you lips! You are plump and enticing. Thank you for being my lips.”

Try it. If you feel more comfortable you can try the written word instead. Write poems to your favorite body parts.
